Recently in prayer 1 Corinthians 13:11 came flooding into my heart:

When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. KJV

We know a child would rather play all the time, watch TV or play video games more than do their chores or school work.

Many children never want to clean their room. Little boys don’t always want to take a bath.

And yet Jesus said to us in Matthew 18 that unless we come to Him as a little child we would in no way enter the kingdom of heaven. So there are some great characteristics of a child:

A child will most of the time believe everything you say;
A child is VERY impressionable;
A child is very forgiving. (Fighting with others one minute, playing together like nothing ever happened the next!)
A child is completely dependent on someone else…for everything (food, clothing, protection, instruction)
A Child /young person can be curious about many different things…including sin!

It amazes me that much of what you learn from age 1-18, you will spend the rest of your life UNLEARNING; especially the bad habits, the wrong mindsets, the quirks.

That’s why they call them formative years….

Paul states there was a time in which I was a child…but when I became a man….I PUT AWAY….

Put away what? childish words…Childish understanding…Childish thinking….
This takes maturity.

What are some markers of maturity?
1. Maturity should cause you to begin to watch your words.
I have found out the hard way that just because something crosses my mind, doesn’t mean I have to say it! I have also found out I don’t have to take part in every doctrinal argument I’m invited to. Twenty percent of your life will be spent talking; speaking words. Are you really conscious of the words that are coming out of your mouth?

Solomon said it best:
Proverbs 18:20 A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

2. Maturity should cause you to pray for the spirit of wisdom & revelation
I recently found some old sermon notes from 1993. As I looked at them I was embarrassed to think that anyone could have received anything from this! Yet at the time, it wasn’t dry ink on faded paper: it was a living revelation!

I also look back at my life and ministry and realize there have been times I’ve had some great & powerful revelation of the Word; but didn’t have the wisdom to know when to speak it and who to speak it to!

The whole essence of communication is having the right message, at the right time, at the right place, and be given to the right people!

3. We must become proactive in casting down wrong thoughts…
2 Cor. 10:4,5 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;  KJV

Learn to discern what is coming from your mind, & what is coming from your spirit! Just because you are born again and love Jesus doesn’t mean every thought you have is from Him. Be teachable to know the difference!

Please pray for our upcoming Kenya outreaches as we travel back November 29th for the Malava School of Ministry, the Kilgoris School of Ministry as well as the 2016 Graduation of the Kilgoris SOM. $50 will sponsor one pastor or leader to attend one of these sessions. Would you be willing to join us in helping these rural leaders become better equipped to reach the field of their assignment? Thank you for using the enclosed envelope for your reply.

As we approach the end of the year, many look for ways they can be a blessing to ministries such as ours. Would you consider including Revival Now International in your year-end special gifts? You will be helping us expand outreach in East Africa, as well as accept ministry opportunities in Trinidad, Guyana, Honduras and hopefully several other countries in 2017. All gifts are tax deductible…and greatly appreciated!

Thank you for being such a blessing to Pam and I and our world-wide Revival Now International family!  Happy Thanksgiving!
