Identity - : the distinguishing character or personality of an individual : INDIVIDUALITY
Continuing with the theme of identity we have been discussing the last several months, it’s important that even those of us who are settled and confident in who we are in Christ cement our God-identity in our hearts and our minds. Satan has infected many minds with confusion about their identity mainly because of a rejection of any and all authority and accountability in their lives.
We are spirit beings, with a soul (mind, will & emotions) that live in a physical body. The greatest warfare in your life will come in that 15-18 inch space between your brain and your spirit (heart). Learning to cast down thoughts and imaginations that are contrary to the Word of God and the Will of God is essential to securing the victory and keeping the victory in your life!
There are three pathways satan will use to cause confusion of your identity:
1. Unrenewed mind. Once you are born from above it is imperative that you saturate your mind with the Word every day. Not just reading to alleviate any guilt for not ready the Word: read and study in order to transform your thinking and arm yourself with the only weapons guaranteed to defeat satan and his minions: the Word of God!
Romans 12:2 “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
Ephesians 4:23 “And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;”
2.An unsanctified will. Wow…I don’t have time in this forum to dig into this. But I can tell you from personal experience, there is no future in asking God to give us our own will. There will never be a good outcome to ask Him to bless what you are doing either. Find out what He has blessed for your life and do that. You will then live life with an unconscious anointing and blessing that will bless others. Many people live their lives never finding God’s identity for themselves because they are not willing to crucify their will on the cross.
Luke 9:23 “And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”
3.Unchecked emotions. I love the Presence of God! I am SO THANKFUL we can feel His Spirit moving and touching us! But friends, God is just as real when we CANNOT feel His Presence as He is when we do. He is just as near to us when we don’t feel Him as He is when we do feel Him. Jesus was very clear when He said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you…”
If the Presence of God we are basking in never brings any change to our lives, all we are doing is being emotional. Again, I love to feel the Presence of God. But I also know your emotions can be manipulated by a song, a sad story, pictures of hungry children. I could show pictures I have taken myself of children who I know are starving in Kenya, Guyana, Nicaragua and have every penny out of your pocket and into mine; but I choose not to manipulate anyone and let God speak to those He wants to be a part of what we are doing in the nations. We must learn the difference in being led by the Spirit and being manipulated by our emotions.
As we recognize these pathways and arm ourselves with the Living Word of God, victory will eventually come. In Jesus name!
