Matthew 4:3,4 3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
I was recently thinking and meditating on many of the prophetic words and promises Pam and I have been given over the course of our lives. Seems like every where we go, someone will give us a word of encouragement that without them knowing it, lines up with every other special promise God has given us over the course of our lives.
The word proceedeth (or proceed) in Greek means to come forth out of. Jesus was in the process of ending His forty days of fasting when the devil shows up (again) tempting Jesus to rush the process He’s in. As satan is challenging Jesus’ humanity and His natural need for food, Jesus stops him by declaring it’s not only natural food men need, but mankind shall live (truly live) by every word that comes forth out of the mouth of God.
I love the Bible! There is a blessing in reading the written Word of God. But something supernatural takes place when the written Word of God (known as the logos) comes alive in our hearts (becomes a rhema).
When the Bible, a promise in the Bible, or a prophetic word comes forth and we know that we know this is from the Lord, it becomes a Word that is proceeding literally from the mouth of God!
A proceeding Word is a living Word; a live Word. A promise from God either from the written Book called the Bible or a prophetic utterance is a Word that brings light, life, energy, hope, joy and peace into our hearts!
But when we think about so many of God’s promises that have yet to come to pass it can become wearisome. It can cause us to lose hope. The light and the life that Word produced can be snatched away by what I call prophetic disappointment. It’s what happens to many when a promise takes a long time in coming to pass.
Here’s what I do know about God’s proceeding word:
1. A proceeding word comes the moment you need it. Jesus wasn’t worried about what He
was going to answer the devil in His hour of trial. Because He knew His Father intimately, He knew He would have the right answer, at the right time, with the right authority, to get the right results: victory over the enemy!
2. A proceeding word will come out of your spirit; by the Holy Spirit. Later Jesus would tell us when the Holy Spirit is alive in a believer, out of our belly would flow Rivers of Living Water. Feed yourself the Word of God, even if you don’t always understand what you are reading. At the right place, at the right time, the Holy Spirit will bring a passage to your remembrance that will become a proceeding word in your life.
3. A proceeding word will give fuel to your faith, give you hope, operate with love, and release the peace of God that passes all understanding.
4. A proceeding word will always require faith and obedience to see it come to pass.
Allow the word of God you are listening to be mixed with faith. Don’t let a prophetic promise just lay on the shelf forever, hoping, if it’s God’s will, that it will come to pass.
Some of God’s promises are not meant to always be pushed off to the side and say, “...oh, if it’s God’s will, it will come to pass…” They need to be prayed through for proper understanding and timing about it’s fulfillment.
It’s time for us to obey 1 Timothy 1:18 “This charge I commit to you son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that you by them mightest war a good warfare…”
Many Blessings!
