Once again it’s hard to fathom we are now at the mid point in 2011.
Recently Pam and I were honored to be asked to minister at the AEGA World Conference in Monroe, Louisiana. The theme of the conference was Strength To Endure. Studying for the conference the Holy Spirit took me to 1 Kings 19:5-8:
5And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat. 6And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again. 7And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee. 8And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.
Never in my lifetime have I sensed such weariness in people all across the country. There’s not much encouragement coming from the news; the gas pump will only give you heart burn. But there is a word of encouragement from the Lord: God has NOT forsaken His people! His promise still holds true; He will never leave us nor forsake us!
There are several points in this story that I believe will give us strength to endure, but the one I want to focus on is:
1.We must recognize God’s provision. Here is the greatest prophet who ever lived, who just called fire down from heaven, personally oversaw the killing of 850 false prophets; now he is running for his life, lying under a juniper tree praying to die. Thankfully, God sent an angel with both a special provision and special protection till he could gather the strength to reach out.
An Angel arrives declaring, arise and eat…
What is our provision? We have at our access the Word of God; the Blood of Jesus; the Angels of the Lord that camp out all around us. We also have the power of grace and mercy as well as the power of the Love of God. We also have at our disposal the prophetic word of God for our destiny. That’s some good stuff if you ask me!
Then, in verse seven the Angel of the Lord came again the second time saying, arise and eat; for the journey it too great…
The journey we are on with the Lord is too great to attempt it in the flesh. God’s mandate for our lives will always require His participation. I sense God is releasing a double portion for those who will willingly transition from this season to the next. But if we fail to recognize the provision God has given, we may miss a great blessing God intends for the next season in our life.
Recently the church world-wide celebrated Pentecost Sunday. Of all the points I could bring out about Pentecost and it’s application to us in 2011 is that it is a pivotal feast: it signals a transition from one season to the next.
God is signaling for many of us, at this pivotal time, the mid-point of 2011 it’s time for a new season! But in this new season God is requiring us to let go of mindsets that are not the will of God for our lives. Fear, pity, selfishness, jealousy, anger and unforgiveness will keep you under the juniper tree…instead of enjoying the special provision God has for us at this hour.
The journey is too great; be we have a great God with a great provision to send us into the greatest days of our lives and ministry.
Arise and eat; for the journey is too great for you…
Ministry Update
On July 26th I will travel back to Kenya for a month packed full of ministry. We will conduct an outdoor crusade and pastors training in Lodwar Turkanna; and will once again hold our summer session of the Maasai Vocational Training Center. We have a team of young adults traveling with us from across Alabama and Texas that will conduct our first Youth Conference & Crusade in Kilgoris; we will once again take part in the Annual IMU August Convention. On August 27th we will have the honor of dedicating the new Sanctuary of the Kilgoris Assembly of God Church with Pastor Jackson Mongaine.
The budget for this trip will be the highest we have ever faced due to the increase in oil, gas, and food prices. I am so thankful to our friends and partners who have been faithful to sow a special offering for these major outreaches. Your giving the last two months have helped us send several thousand dollars in relief offerings to churches in the tornado stricken areas of Alabama and Joplin Missouri to help with recovery.
Your giving also helped us send a special offering to help a small church in Eastern Kenya that is in an area in which people are literally starving to death because of famine. All gifts to Revival Now Ministries are tax deductible. Thank you for being sensitive to the Lord in your giving this month. As always, you can give securely online at http://revivalnow.org/give.
