Many people will never step into their destiny and experience the true joy that God has for them because they are not willing to give up a lifestyle they have grown accustomed to. Those are very strong words, but it is the very strong truth.
This month I will mark thirty-eight years of ministry. Twenty-nine of those years have been in full time service for the Lord. In all these years of service I have seen dozens of people who started out with a burning call from God (that was confirmed in many different ways, through many different people); but today they are not anywhere near ministry. Sadly, some are not even living for Jesus.
I am not talking about people who were hyped into volunteering in a moment of emotion; I am speaking about people who you knew had a genuine call from God to serve him, as a pastor…a worship leader…a missionary…but because the love of things and expensive toys became stronger than the call of the harvest, today they are miserable, some are bitter, many are very discouraged and even others are not even living for God.
My heart is burdened today because I am convinced the least prayed prayer in the Bible is found in Matthew 9:38:
Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He will send forth laborers into His harvest.
Many people believe we are in the last days. I believe we have been in the last days for 2,000+ years. I know for a fact I am in my last days. At age 54, 30 more years will put me at age 84. Even though I closer to the end of my race than I am the beginning of it, I also know my later days will be greater than the rest! With that being said, it is heavy on my heart to ask God to raise up more laborers. I’m not only asking Him to raise up future leaders, I’m asking God to make me a spiritual father to those who need one…to those who will connect with my voice and qualify me (by opening up their hearts) to help them not make the same mistakes I have made in my life and ministry.
What are you doing and how are you praying and preparing for the coming harvest?
Is God calling you to service for Him? Have you allowed “things” to rob you of the call? He may not be calling you to sell everything you have and move to a foreign country…but He IS calling us all to examine our hearts and ask the question: “is there anything (ANY THING) more important to me than saying yes to Jesus?”
The good news is all you have to do is say yes to him and begin making small steps toward that calling. If all you can do is move one inch toward Him, He will make a giant leap toward you!
I am not saying or insinuating you have to do what Pam and I do to be called into ministry. We need more true Godly pastors, more Spirit sensitive worship leaders, more passionate youth pastors, and yes more missionaries to touch the nations with the life changing power of the Gospel!
We not only need go-ers, we also need senders! Whatever God has called you to do, don’t shrink back because it’s hard, unpopular, and definitely don’t shrink back because the call may require you to give up a lifestyle you have grown accustomed to.
If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross and follow me. Matthew 16;24
The harvest is calling.
